Day 3 :: Kinsale, Cobh, Cork & the Beara Peninsula
Kinsale is a quaint picturesque town on the south west coast of Ireland. It was one of my favorite towns for many reasons. There’s a vast selection of cafes, pubs and restaurants. The shops are filled with artistic goods and beautiful decor. Unfortunately, the morning we planned to explore the town it was raining so we weren’t able to stay as long as we would have liked. If we make it back to Ireland, we’ll be sure to relax in Kinsale for a few days.
Thanks to Rick Steves‘ recommendation, we made our nightly reservations at Jo’s, which was located on Main Street in the heart of town. The owners also run a cafe below that offers a wide selection of homemade bakery items. The aroma of fresh baked goods filled our room in the morning. It was the perfect wake up call.
One of the highlights of our trip was staying at Chez Shea on the Beara Peninsula. Chez Shea is home to a beautifully restored 1979 caravan located on the property of Marie & Ger’s family farm. Marie & Ger were amazing hosts and very attentive during our stay. Not only were there freshly baked goods awaiting our arrival they also were able to give us a few recommendations to their favorite pubs for dinner. The amount of detail they’ve put into Chez Shea is unreal. Our experience was incredible. We can’t thank Marie & Ger enough for being such wonderful hosts and for putting so much time, detail and love into Chez Shea. If you’re planning a trip to Ireland, we highly recommend taking a few days to enjoy glamping and taking in the breathtaking views at Chez Shea. You can book your stay here.
Notice the directions to Chez Shea. I love that we were given landmarks instead of street names. I think it’s safe to say that none of the streets were named and if they were they definitely didn’t have any signage. Below you’ll see one of the roads we traveled to return to Chez Shea after a few pints at a local pub. This my friends wasn’t a one way road.
Our stay included breakfast. Marie & Ger served us a delicious and healthy meal complete with freshly squeezed juices, half dollar pancakes, yogurt mixed with granola, fresh fruits and a kettle of hot tea. It was just the right amount of scrumptious food to start our journey. And one of our favorites, too.
Just a short walk from the caravan you’ll find the fanciest free standing bathroom/washroom. Check out the artwork on the shower door made entirely from colorful strips of magazine pages.
Would you consider glamping while traveling abroad or do you have any glamping recomendations? Have a safe weekend friends and be sure to check back next week for Part 3 & Part 4 of our Irish adventures.
